Although it cannot be seen in the pic, this bear has a white or yellowish crescent marking on its chest that resembles, with a bit of imagination, either the rising or setting sun. Hence the name Sun bear. It is a smallish bear about 1.1 - 1.4 metre and one of the few bears that makes its home in the branches of trees. It is nocturnal and omnivorous, eating insects, small birds, lizards, rodents, honey and fruits. It is also fond of coconuts and oil palm leading to a lot of trouble between the Sun bears and humans.
