Orangutans are solitary apes feeding on fruit,leaves, bark and insects from the rainforest. The orangutan in this pic is matured as indicated by its cheek pads. Cheek pads are not fully developed until the orangutans are in their twenties. They have a long lifespan of about 60 years and are deemed to be highly intelligent. Sadly they are now endangered in the wild because of loss of habitat due to illegal logging and farming and oil palm plantations.
