My father was a Govt Officer who had been stationed in several towns in the country. As a result I went to different schools in different towns and one of them was Clifford School which was directly opposite MCKK. Clifford School is one of the oldest schools in Malaysia having been established in 1897 thus making it older than the school across the drain. Our school motto. “The Ship is More Than the Crew” has always confused me. During my time (1950s), the Headmaster was Mr Potter, who was British and when I left, the HM was Mr Karam Singh. I joined the Boy Scouts there and was a Patrol Leader in the 2nd KK Troop. Had much fun camping in Beluru. Other teachers I remember were Cikgu Ibrahim (who had a son, Rashid Ibrahim in my class) and the late Mr Loh Poh Seng, my Scout Master. I remember I was in Queen's House and its colour was purple. I also recall I was in my House 4x100 relay team.

I took this pic in 2007 when I made a detour to Kuala Kangsar on my way to Camerons from Penang. That trip I drove my Smart Fortwo and when I arrived at the school gates on a cloudy Sunday morning, I told the security guard I was an old boy of the school and would like to take a few photos of my old school. He smiled and quickly opened the gates gesturing me to drive in and pointed to the spot for me to park. Such a nice reception from my alma mater! I left CSKK in 1959.
