In 2007, Kayes had a post about "Unforgettable Characters" in the 60s in Taiping. He identified a biker (Manny Tay?)and a family of three brothers (Ang family). Do you have an update on these characters?

hi forkertp and welcome to Taiping Talk! I have not met those people for a long time. The last time I met Manny was sometime in the early 80s. The three Ang brothers must be Ang Chui Lai, Ang Chui Pek and Ang Chui Cheng. In the early 2000s I heard that one of their sisters was the Matron at the Lam Was Eee Hospital in Penang. Are you from Taiping?

Hi Kayes, I am not from Taiping, but visited quite often. My family is from Penang but I am living in Canada now and have been here awhile. I have fond memories of beautiful Taiping and have thought often of going back but life gets in the way. I have heard recently that Ang Chui Lai has passed away but have no news of the other two brothers. Thanks for your information.

Yes I remember Ang Chui Lai passed away ......... I now recall reading the obituary in the papers. Chui Lai was a lawyer who had his own law firm in KL. The sister I mentioned in my earlier post is Poh Goon, one of the twins. Someone did tell me that Manny Tay has migrated to Australia but I am not sure. Did you attend the Taiping Gospel Hall or the Burmah Road Hall?

hello again, I called my sis in law last night and she told me that Chui Lai and Chui Pek have since passed away. Chui Cheng still lives in KL. She is not so sure about Manny Tay but she said the one who migrated to Australia, is David Tay, Manny's younger brother. If you attended the Gospel Hall you would probably remember Tan Tiong Leng,

Hello, thank you so much for the information you so diligently provided. It was so long ago that I was in Taiping and even longer when I went to the Gospel Hall. No I don't know Tan Tiong Leng. Thank you for bringing back good memories. I shall continue to check this website for any new information you may have. Seems that Manny has disappeared. My gratitude or your efforts.
