Message from Jeff Aw:-
"Is the house opposite the KE old Boy Club. If it is I know the Family well because One of the son is my classmate I just visited it during the Chinese New Year. It is the Chong Family and the house is a Heritage to Taiping. Good Photos of Taiping. Keep it up with this new forum as it bring back lots of memories".

Syabas to the owner of this beautifully maintained house!
The two gold symbols with red frames nearer to the ceiling are the character "Sau" - longevity.
By reading the two characters on top of the door frame, we know the surname of this family. We read and write Chinese characters from right to left. These two characters are "Hor" and "Kan". The auspicous line on the right of the door frame (as we are looking at the pic.) starts with the word "Hor" and the auspicous line on the left starts with the word "Kan". Very auspicous lines.
We can have brand new bungalows, but they are nothing when compared to this beautifully maintained house. Lucky owner and those who are staying here!

This house is actually on Kota Road and not station road. It used to be the former home of Mr.James Saw Chin Bee and his family. Mr James was my standard 6 teacher at St. Georges primary and his nephew was my classmate. Mr James then went over to the lower secondary school across the street to teach. He was a very good teacher and the students liked him very much. Mr James taught us how to play the "nose harmonica." His favorite questions to students was "who saw chin bee". Answer" James Saw Chin Bee." Mr Saw Chin Bee left the teaching profession to become a catholic priest. He was a devout catholic and was a very likeable teacher.
