A scene like this in Taiping is not uncommon. Dark rain clouds start to gather and they are always in the direction of Maxwell Hill. Minutes later ... or an hour later? ... it starts to rain. This kind of situation makes "rain betting" interesting and on that day when this pic was taken, I am sure those guys at the market have lain their bets :-) For your information, 3 or 4 minutes after I took this pic, it started to rain.

Hi Kayes, made anything from betting on the time the first raindrop falls? It is at this time that lots of people will be looking up to the sky in anticipation of rain. Lots of money to be made.

Hi all
Along at our camp at Kamunting we could see the rain falling on Maxwell Hill Working its way slowly down towards us, giving us plenty time to take shelter in our Basha's. I always liked it after the rain everything smelt so fresh.

Gadzy, Taiping (especially the Lake Garden) looks beautiful after a bout of heavy rain and there is no shortage of heavy showers in this rain town.

Joe, the art of "rain betting" has to be acquired and there will never be golden raindrops for me. However, I was taught the proper way to play roulette in casinos ..... but that's entirely a different story altogether.

Hi Kayes,
I had a taste of the Taiping weather the other day. I took a drive there to meet up with an old friend, TA, at the Chin Kong Optical. After lunch, there was a fierce thunderstorm which lasted for about an hour. So the only best thing to do was to sit out the rain at casual market and sample all the goodies there.

hello Joe, nice to experience one of Taiping's big thunderstorms, isn't it? I wonder who made money on that day Smile The late boss of Chin Kong (the one with the cleft on the upper lip) used to walk in the Lake Garden everyday without fail. He was always dressed in white, white long sleeved shirt and white long pants. Many Taipingites called him the White Knight. Who runs Chin Kong Optical now? The wife? This family seems to have control of the spectacle business in Taiping. One of the brothers own another optical shop and the son runs his own optical shop in Kota Road, near Pizza Hut.
