Asked the guard stationed at the public toilet in the lake garden where is Taiping Rest House. He said the rest house is in Bukit Jana. Wondering if he understood the question.
So surprised to see those columns in front of Casuarina Inn were so run down. Those columns were once beautiful and well kept.

You are right Orange. The entire place (including the Casuarina Inn) is in a pitiful condition and since those columns from the Resident's House is a historical attraction, I wonder why nothing is being done about this place. I took this pic about 2 weeks back. Looks like all doom and gloom.

Thanks for this pic., Kayes. I just love those moving clouds and they were sharply captured.
Those columns were from the Resident's House? Interesting! Perhaps we could know more about this historical attraction, please.

Orange, which public toilet did you go to? There are two in the Lake Garden. One is the old and smaller one. The newer one is bigger and near Casuarina Inn. The British Resident"s House was near the Lake Garden on a hill. It was demolished to make way for another building and the columns moved to their present location.

The one nearer to Casuarina Inn. The toilet looked new and quite clean. I used that toilet because I saw there was a guard stationed outside the toilet. Somehow I felt safe.
Wonder what year the Resident's House was demolished. So glad the columns are so well intact. They must have done a good job while demolishing the Resident's House.

Hello Kayes,
Is Bukit Jana a name of a place or a condo? I am still wondering why the guard mentioned Bukit Jana when I asked him for the direction to Rest House.

The columns are indeed a sad sight. I wonder why the Resident's House was demolished as it would have been a grand building built in the old colonial fashion.
I have not been to the Casuarina Inn for ages but the last visit was a disappointment. Even then, the whole place was run-down and not befitting the driveway with the lovely columns from the former British Resident's House.
