On 1st April 1961, a fatal accident happened somewhere near Istana Kenangan (now Sultan Azlan Shah Museum). The late Raja Mohamed ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar drove his elder brother, Sultan Idris II's MG Sport back to Istana Kenangan to cook Mee Goreng which he had promised for his expecting wife. When almost reaching Istana Kenangan and his young wife was sitting at the head of the stairs waiting for him, the MG Sport lost control and hit a lamp post. He passed away at the scene. He was only 33 years old. Upon hearing the news about the accident, his Chinese mechanic cried uncontrollably because the mechanic insisted to send the late Raja Mohamed back to Istana Kenangan but he refused. The mechanic was supposed to repair the faulty MG sport the next day. A tragic love story .....
After the accident, that lamp post was later shifted few feet behind its original site.
