Another lovely house in Bukit Chandan. To me, Bukit Chandan is the most beautiful royal town - serene, tranquil, undulating terrain with lush green landscapes and very very proud of it as it is in my home state!

hi Orange, Bukit Chandan in Kuala Kangsar is indeed a beautiful place, It seems so tranquil there. Of course the palace and the mosque make the area special but the houses surrounding the palace also contribute to its charm.

The house on this pic. is named Rumah Meor. It was initially owned and built by Tun Ismail bin Ahmad, a clerk who worked for the 30th Sultan Perak - Sultan Iskandar. Later, it was bought by Toh Muda Haji Meor Samsudin - he was one of those who compiled the book "Hulu Perak Dalam Sejarah". Now, Haji Meor Samsudin's family members are still staying in this house. A very well-kept and beautiful house!!

As a child I visited KK often and I had a friend (Raja Nasrun) whose father was the Private Secretary to the Sultan of Perak (Sultan Yussuf). I had visited his house a few times in Bukit Chandan and also he once took me into the palace through the back door. In the early 90s, I got to know Raja Ahmad who lives just outside the palace gates and whenever I was in KK I would stop by to look at his beautiful Alfa Romeo Duetto. Then there is also Shukor (another Perak royal) who has an immaculate Alfa 1750 GTV and he also lives in Bukit Chandan. Other rajas I know who originated from Bukiti Chandan KK but moved to Ipoh are Raja Lope, Raja Harun, Raja Shariffudin and "Roger". They are all brothers and all of them owned beautiful vintage/classic cars one time or the other.

Kayes, is "Roger" the same Raja Kobat Sallehuddin, one of the sons of Raja Muda Musa of Perak?

Orange, the late Roger is not Raja Kobat. I have forgotten Roger's real name but he was Raja XXX Razman.

Kayes, Roger must be a popular name among the Perak royalties. Many of them can play musical instruments and they have formed a band. Capt.(Rtd.) Raja Kobat composes songs for Siti Nurhaliza and Sharifah Aini and he is Raja Di Hilir's brother - a vintage car enthusiast. His daughter works with MBSB, another Liang Lui from KK!

I remember the Razman brothers used to jam with the Sultan of Perak (Sultan Idris) at the Ipoh Club. I can't remember exactly now but I think Raja Din (Sharifuddin) played the sax and Roger could sing very well and also played the piano. Raja Harun played the guitar and HRH the Sultan played the sax too. I think Raja Kobat was from Clifford School KK .... wonder my memory serves me well there Do you know where is Kobat now?

There are calls to preserve Baitul Anor - a lovely mansion just next to Ubadiah Mosque, built by master craftsman and builder Tn. Hj. Sofian. If this mansion with beautiful Malay craftsmanship is restored, it will definitely be a major tourist attraction in Perak.
Proud to be a Perak-born!
