What a wonderful piece of architecture. Contrast it to the abortion that is the Tesco box!

In the mid 90s the then President of the Town Council announced that the market looks unsightly and proposed to tear it down and build a 4 storey one in its place. He was never seen again.

Could'ent agree with you more Kayes, the Heritage that is the old Market should be retained and cherished though a wee bit TLC would not go wrong.

hi Gadzy. really long time no see! Very pleased to read your posts again. Well, I don't think this heritage market will go anywhere. I was in Taiping yesterday for less than an hour and the market was still intact and bustling with people.

Wet road after the rain. By judging the activities and cars parked near this market, it's must be in the morning. Morning rain - uniquely Taiping!
This wet market is indeed a beautiful building. With hypermarkets like Giant and Tesco mushrooming in Taiping, wonder if this heritage building will be converted into a cultural centre - just like Central Market Kuala Lumpur. But then, Central Market Kuala Lumpur was converted due to parking problem around that area. I don't see there is any parking problem around this heritage building.

Taiping folks gather around this wet market to make bets if it would rain .....
Thunder, lightning keep us in-door. Today is the weekend and also the start of the year-end school holidays.
